So, I decided to get an RT61 based wireless card for my mythbox. I don’t want to be constantly tripping over wires. The only thing is I need to build the kernel module for it. Knoppmyth doesn’t come with the sources. I finally was able to download the sources after hunting the forums. I compiled the module and tried to load it. It wouldn’t load, something about not being the correct type of modules or the sources or something. I also want to get my SPDIF out working.
So ends my Knoppmyth trials. It’s a very good distro and many things work right out the box. I want something I can control and I love portage. If I can’t get gentoo working nicely easily, I’ll try something else. This is going to be a 2 month project to get it all working correctly and nicely.

I received a nice raise at work this year, so we decided to buy some electronics we did not really need immediately. We decided we needed a new router, since our current one is 4+ years old. Dan bought a nice Gigabit wireless N router. I decided since we are getting gigabit, we should do it all the way and get some Cat6. I ordered 1000ft of purple Cat6 with tips and crimper. Last I checked the cat6 was on backorder. What sucks is that my ethernet cord broke when we got the new router, so I really need the cable.
We also decided, since we have a nice box just sitting around, to make a mythtv PVR out of it. I ordered a linux compatible capture card from pchdtv. It hasn’t arrived yet. I bought a DVI to DVI cable, but it seems my tv only has a VGA and HDMI port, so I’m not sure what I am going to do there. I’m unsure of how to get sound out of it. I ordered a remote, it came today. I’m also unsure about the digital cable. Once i get the card, I’ll can start playing and figure this stuff out. I’m going to use Knoppmyth since it seems like the least painful method. I’ll keep updating as things progress.
